Parent of Yale University Student-Athlete, Class of 2018
Bob Pipe was my daughter’s athletic coach and adviser for over three years while she played high school and AAU basketball. Bob provided extraordinary guidance when it came to the arduous college athletic recruitment process. With his expert advice and counseling, as well as his patience in answering all of our questions, my daughter is now playing basketball at an outstanding DI Ivy League University. I appreciate the work that he does and the manner in which he takes care of his players.
MIT, Class of 2018
Coach Pipe helped me immensely in all stages of my college soccer recruitment process. He was honest with me when identifying schools that would match my level of soccer ability and academic aspirations. With his help, I was able to formulate realistic goals for playing college soccer. He guided me in taking the necessary steps to communicate with college coaches, and in the spring of my junior year, Pipe suggested MIT as an option for me. At that point, I had not even considered going to a technical school and I was initially skeptical. However, I trusted Pipe’s advice, continued to think about my options, and realized MIT was a perfect fit for me. As a freshman in college, coming off a successful fall season, I am grateful to Pipe for helping me find an environment in which I can achieve my athletic and academic goals. It was clear throughout the process that Pipe’s first priority was helping me find a great college fit.
Parent of Dartmouth, Williams, and Bowdoin Student-Athletes, Classes 2010, 2012, and 2019 Respectively
Coach Pipe has played a part in the college recruiting process for all 3 of our children. Our oldest, Derek, was frustrated with his high school program and in searching for a new school was introduced to Coach Pipe through a mutual friend. Rivers was a perfect fit, both academically and athletically. Derek knew he wanted to play college soccer, and with Coach Pipe’s guidance he was able to achieve that dream at Dartmouth College. Our daughter Nicole, was able to make the transition from high school to college soccer, and her recruitment by Williams College was facilitated by Coach Donahue, with valuable input from Coach Pipe. Our youngest, Jake, will also play college soccer next fall, and Coaches Pipe and Ashenfelter were instrumental in his recruitment by Bowdoin College. We have always stressed the importance of academics, and Coach Pipe took that into consideration during the recruiting process. They were able to successfully combine their passion for athletics with their pursuit of a higher education, and this combination simplified the college application process. We feel very fortunate to have been “walked through” what could have been a very stressful experience.
Wheaton College, Class of 2015
I did not have many options coming out of high school and Coach Ashenfelter was one of the main reasons I was able to attend Bridgton Academy for a PG year. Coach Ashenfelter gave me a great experience playing at Bridgton for his team and he also helped me through the recruiting process, which was very new to me being from Brazil. I had offers from coaches from D1 to D3 and coach helped me choose the right school for me. It came down to a D1 school and Wheaton College a D3 school but I chose Wheaton. Coach helped me see the benefits in Wheaton, having a strong academic and soccer program. Wheaton also gave me a much better financial package and I’ve started every game for four years. Without the care and guidance of coach Ashenfelter I would never have had this opportunity.
Boston College, Drafted into the MLS by LA Galaxy 2014
I have no doubt that without Coach Pipe's help I would not be where I am today. I decided to play for him because he had a reputation for working with players beyond high school. I had a number of college options and ultimately decided to play for BC to challenge myself at the highest level. Coach Pipe even connected me with the agent who helped me sign my first professional contract!
URI, Class of 2016
I secured a full scholarship to play basketball at URI to continue my education and be the first person in my family to get a college degree. Coach Pipe helped make sure that coaches saw me play, and helped me decide which program was the best for me. He also connected me with the Puerto Rican U18 National Team Coaches and got me a tryout, which ultimately lead me to a roster spot as the youngest member of the Puerto Rican Women's National Team and a Silver Medal at the Centrobasket Tournament in Mexico.
Bowdoin College, Class of 2017
As I went through the recruiting process I had to decide between a Division 1 program in the Patriot League or a Division 3 program. With Coach Pipe's guidance, I ultimately found Bowdoin to be the best fit for both my family and me. The financial assistance they were able to provide me was well above the scholarship money that I was offered at Division 1 programs. As a first generation college student in my family, my parents and I didn't know anything about the financial aid process. I've been a starter since my freshman year and I'm getting a great education. I don't think I would have such a good opportunity in every way without Coach Pipe.
Babson College, Class of 2013
As a student-athlete, the college process is about weighing your options on both sides and determining the best fit. With the help of my high school coach and mentor Bob Pipe, I was able to get a pin-pointed sense of where I stand and also a sense of where I wanted to be. I owe much of my positive experience in college athletics to his guidance and expertise throughout the recruiting process.
